UNDRR, UNOSSC, & PAHO/WHO Conclude a Joint Capacity Development Workshop on Making Cities Resilient & Preparing for the Future
6 October, New York – Over 2,500 participants from close to 150 countries and territories, with almost equal gender participation, attended a certified online training workshop, that took place between 8 September to 6 October 2020, focusing on making cities resilient. Close to 40 percent of participants were from national and local governments, and close to 30 percent from IGOs, CSOs and academia.

The Cities Project launches this initiative to prepare a knowledge product that capitalizes on cities’ good practices as well as lessons learned in their COVID-19 responses for municipal and local policymakers and city-related practitioners. South-South Solidarity for COVID-19 Response: Henan Province in China Donates 10,000 Masks to Banjul, Gambia
UNOSSC Cities Project team mobilized a donation of 10,000 regular protective masks from the Henan Province of China to Banjul City of the Gambia last week.

South-South Solidarity for COVID-19 Responses: Shenzhen-based NGO Donates 20,000 Masks to West Africa
6 August, New York – Facilitated by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), the Shenzhen Federation of Youth Entrepreneurship Promotion pledged a donation of 20,000 disposable surgical masks to the Banjul City of The Gambia and the West African Health Organization (WAHO) upon their requests. UNOSSC Cities Project team in Beijing coordinated the logistics with support from the UNDP China Country Office.
China-based NGO Donates Masks to Support Frontline Health Workers in Koidu, Sierra Leone
6 August, New York – Under the mobilization and coordination of the UNOSSC and its Cities Project team in Beijing, 2,000 disposable sterile masks donated by the China Association of Trade in Services (CATIS) were delivered to the Koidu-New Sembehun City Council in Sierra Leone to support the city’s COVID-19 responses. The City Council held a “symbolic” ceremony to hand over the masks to frontline health workers.
