China-based NGO Donates Masks to Support Frontline Health Workers in Koidu, Sierra Leone
6 August, New York – Under the mobilization and coordination of the UNOSSC and its Cities Project team in Beijing, 2,000 disposable sterile masks donated by the China Association of Trade in Services (CATIS) were delivered to the Koidu-New Sembehun City Council in Sierra Leone to support the city’s COVID-19 responses. The City Council held a “symbolic” ceremony to hand over the masks to frontline health workers.
South-South Cooperation in Crypto Crowdfunding for PPE Mobilization for West Africa
10 August 2020, New York – 250,000 disposable surgical masks mobilized by the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation (FCSSC) together with its partners for the West African Health Organization (WAHO) and its 15 Member States have arrived in Abuja, Nigeria through a freight aircraft. The call for donation was initiated by FCSSC on Bithelp.com, a blockchain-based fundraising platform for disasters and crisis responses, with the support from the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). International logistics for these masks was coordinated by UNDP China Country Office and UNOSSC Cities Project team based in Beijing.
Webinar on SSC: Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation for SDGs
Under the umbrella of the Youth Dialogues Series co-launched by the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in China (UNRCO) and the Tencent Group, the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) concluded a virtual dialogue on youth innovation and entrepreneurship and the role of South-South cooperation, with support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Phoenix TV, and Shenzhen Federation of Youth Entrepreneurship Promotion. This dialogue featured real-life stories of seven young entrepreneurs from China and other developing countries. Renowned pianist and UN Messenger of Peace Mr. Lang Lang shared a special video message with young friends at the event, urging them to “make our future from today”.

Chinese, Sudanese medical professionals share anti-COVID-19 experience through webinar
Health authorities and medical professionals from China and Sudan on 21 May attended a Global MedixChange webinar, sharing their first-hand clinical experience and know-how in preventing COVID-19 and treating patients infected with the coronavirus. UNOSSC, including the Cities Project, supported the organization of this event.
Sudan and China Share Experiences in a Global MedixChange webinar on Combatting COVID-19
Health authorities and medical professionals from Sudan and China joined a webinar, sharing their first-hand clinical experiences and knowledge in preventing and treating COVID-19 infection with their counterparts. This South-South knowledge exchange was jointly organized by the Federal Ministry of Health of Sudan and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang (China) University School of Medicine (SAHZU), with support from Alibaba Health, Jack Ma Foundation, Alibaba Foundation, World Health Organization, Sudan and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). The Cities Project team provided coordination and advocacy support to this event.
